Space for Solace (Enyhülés tere) is a grassroots initiative aimed at creating a safe physical and mental space for those who have experienced perinatal loss (the early loss of a child). Its ultimate goal is to establish a public memorial site that facilitates the processing of personal grief—through the sensory experience of the curated space and the release of trauma stored within the body—while contributing to collective memory through a new ritual.
As part of the Sidewalk 2 Budapest Contemporary Public Art Festival, the memorial’s central somatic sculpture—constructed from temporary materials—along with designs for the architectural environment, will be on display and open for engagement within the Fiumei Road Cemetery. This will take place in a site-specific context, accompanied by performances centered on the somatic experience.
