Sal mirabilis – The Memory of a Healing Place brings the forgotten history of the former Erzsébet Salt Bath back into the collective memory of Újbuda. The project explores what remains of a site once its buildings have vanished, yet its original purpose continues to endure. Through an installation crafted from repurposed bathtubs—located in the Sósfürdő (Salt Bath) Park in District XI—as well as local history walks and community programs, the legacy of the vanished bath and the enduring, healing nature of the site will be brought to life. The project is coordinated by the Contemporary Architecture Centre (KÉK), which has been an active participant in the cultural life of Újbuda for over a decade. Drawing on our local connections and our extensive experience in showcasing built heritage and executing placemaking-focused initiatives, we will engage neighborhood residents and local institutions in reinterpreting this lost heritage.
