The “Budapest_Faber” draws attention to Budapest’s hidden craft and tradespeople, who are nonetheless an integral part of the city’s life. Shoemakers, watchmakers, tailors, locksmiths, picture framers, and practitioners of other crafts and trades remain active participants in the city’s daily life to this day. Their shop windows and signboards are an integral part of Budapest’s street- and cityscape.
This joint project by Urbanum and the Top_OS collective focuses on Böszörményi Road, placing the neighborhood’s tradespeople at the center. Members of the Top_OS collective, in collaboration with several crafts- and tradespeople, are mapping the knowledge preserved through these crafts. The collaborations between tradespeople and visual artists result in contemporary artworks that will be on display in storefronts and along the street throughout the festival. The resulting works highlight the presence of the city’s tradespeople while preserving and placing the craftsmanship and knowledge encountered during the project into a new context.
