Did you know that in the 1950s there were play streets where children could play freely, closed off from motor vehicle traffic? And did you know that the section of street in front of the Kesztyűgyár Community Center on Mátyás Square actually functions as a play street? On the evening of September 27 and all day on the 28th, we’re drawing attention to this and inviting residents from the neighborhood and across Budapest—young and old alike—to come play. As part of the program, an exhibition on the history of urban play will be on view at the Kesztyűgyár Gallery from September 14 to 27; then, starting Wednesday evening, September 27, the installation comprising the exhibition will move out onto the street and transform into giant building blocks.
